BETWAY CARES FOUNDATION OPENS DOOR FOR EMERGING FEMALE ARTISTS THROUGH ‘VOICES OF HER

The Betway Cares Foundation is opening the stage for women whose voices deserve to be heard with the launch of Voices for Her, a national vocal search and mentorship programme dedicated to empowering young women.

Designed to uncover raw talent and nurture it into sustainable careers, the initiative marks a new chapter in the foundation’s mission to create lasting impact through sport, education, health, community development and the creative industries.

Voices of Her aims to reshape the creative landscape by ensuring women’s voices are amplified, celebrated and echoed across South Africa, giving aspiring female artists the visibility, skills, and resources they need to thrive.

The programme is open to female vocalists aged 20 – 35 from previously disadvantaged communities across South Africa. The initiative forms part of Betway Cares Foundation’s ongoing mission to nurture young talent, empower communities and cultivate sustainable careers in the creative industry.

More than just your average mentorship programme, Voices for Her is a 12-week journey that begins with a four-week selection process to identify the Top 12 finalists, followed by an eight-week mentorship experience designed to be personal, practical, and impactful. Finalists will receive expert-led training, industry exposure, and career development opportunities.

The curriculum covers every aspect of building a music career, ranging from vocal technique and songwriting to personal branding, PR, financial literacy, and the business of music.

Finalists will complete five weeks of online learning followed by two weeks of in-person mentorship sessions in Johannesburg, led by award-winning songstress Bucie Nqwiliso and acclaimed jazz vocalist Nomfundo Xaluva, alongside networking with leading voices in the industry.

To ensure that no finalist is left behind due to a lack of resources, the programme will also provide each participant with a laptop and a data contract. This support breaks down barriers to digital access, enabling the young women to fully participate in the online training, complete assignments, and connect with mentors throughout the programme. By equipping them with the right tools, Voices for Her ensures that talent is nurtured with the practical means and knowledge to thrive beyond the journey.

“The launch of Voices for Her is especially close to my heart,” said Bakang Lethoko, Head of the Betway Cares Foundation. “This programme is not just about discovering talent, it’s about restoring dignity, creating access, and equipping women with the abilities to build lasting careers as opposed to just discovering new talent. When women are given the right support, they uplift not only themselves but their families, communities, and entire industries.”

Entries are now open, and aspiring female vocalists can enter by sending a WhatsApp message with “Enter” to 063 700 1800 followed by a 60-second video of themselves singing. Expert mentors will then select the Top 12 finalists across South Africa who will advance to the next phase of the mentorship programme. Finalists will be announced on 24 October 2025.

With this initiative, Betway Cares is not only answering the call for greater representation and mentorship in the creative industries but also setting a precedent for how the sector can invest in female voices with action.

Through Voices for Her and future programmes, the Betway Cares Foundation reaffirms its mission: to empower communities, invest in talent, and use sport, arts, and culture as catalysts for lasting impact.
