The eagerly awaited debut of the JAECOO J7 has been officially announced in South Africa, marking the inauguration of this newly established urban off-road SUV brand in the market. Combining sophisticated design with advanced technologies, the J7 is positioned to make a significant impact, with its lineup starting at just R549 900.
Tony Liu, Executive Deputy General Manager of Chery / OMODA & JAECOO South Africa, underscores that the J7 epitomizes the brand’s ethos of “From Classic, Beyond Classic,” making it an ideal vehicle to introduce the innovative marque to the country. South Africa holds the distinction of being both the first right-hand-drive market and the first in Africa to launch the J7.
Liu emphasizes the J7’s appeal to customers seeking a balance of outdoor adventure and comfort without compromising on performance or standard features.
Powered by an efficient turbocharged 1.6-liter petrol engine delivering robust outputs of 145 kW and 290 Nm, coupled with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, all three variants of the J7 offer dynamic driving experiences. The base Vortex and mid-range Glacier models transmit power to the front axle, while the range-topping Inferno boasts all-wheel drive with the brand’s advanced All Road Drive Intelligent System (ARDIS), revolutionizing off-road capabilities.
The inclusion of ARDIS in the Inferno variant redefines off-road driving, enabling seamless navigation across diverse terrain types. With features like a 21° approach angle, a 29° departure angle, 200 mm of ground clearance, and 600 mm of wading depth, drivers can confidently traverse various surfaces.
The proprietary ARDIS system offers seven driving modes, dynamically adjusting the vehicle’s responses in real-time, ensuring optimal performance on any terrain, be it urban streets or challenging off-road paths.
Across the lineup, the J7 boasts generous standard specifications. Even the entry-level Vortex model includes features like power-adjustable front seats, a 13.2-inch touchscreen, a panoramic camera system, and advanced safety features.
Moving up to the Glacier model adds enhancements such as larger alloy wheels, a bigger touchscreen, inter-seat airbags, and a suite of driver-assistance features, including automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.
The flagship Inferno variant comes equipped with ARDIS, a heated steering wheel, and privacy glass, among other premium features.
Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager for OMODA & JAECOO South Africa, anticipates that the J7 will pioneer a new trend in urban off-roading among local buyers, thanks to its combination of ruggedness, comfort, technology, and competitive pricing.
The J7 was unveiled on April 12, 2024, at St John’s College in Johannesburg, featuring a range of activities and entertainment, including a pre-launch drive, presentations on environmental protection, and a music festival. JAECOO’s commitment to sustainability is underscored through its partnership with the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
Furthermore, all versions of the JAECOO J7 come with a comprehensive warranty package, including a 5-year/70,000 km service plan, a 5-year/150,000 km mechanical warranty, and an industry-leading 10-year/1 million kilometer engine warranty.
