South African media darling Minnie Dlamini prepares to be hilariously skewered in “The Showmax Roast of Minnie Dlamini,” premiering this Friday, April 26th, 2024, on Showmax.
Dlamini, a prominent figure in South Africa’s entertainment scene since the early 2000s, will become only the second Black African woman to be roasted on the continent, following Khanyi Mbau.
Known for her grace and charisma, Dlamini embraces the roast as a chance to reclaim her narrative. “This is a moment to turn lemons into lemonade,” she says. “It’s an opportunity to address rumors and have some fun with it. Ultimately, it’s a celebration of my career.”
Comedy powerhouses Jason Goliath and Tumi Morake steer the ship as roastmasters, while a star-studded panel featuring Robert Marawa, Lasizwe, Celeste Ntuli, Penny Lebyane, Trevor Gumbi, Siv Ngesi, Da L.E.S, and Shahan Ramkissoon is poised to deliver no-holds-barred humor.
Dlamini anticipates some surprises. “The comedians understand the roast format,” she explains. “It’s about being funny, not necessarily truthful. But even the non-comedians will surprise you. I know Robert has a funny side, but I don’t think many know that!”
She reserves special mention for Trevor Gumbi, hinting at his potentially scathing performance. “He’s a comedic genius, and this roast will showcase his talent once again,” she says.
With the buzz surrounding her life and career, Dlamini believes this roast will be a landmark moment in South African comedy. “I’ve seen all the local roasts, and this one is shaping up to be the funniest,” she concludes.
Don’t miss “The Showmax Roast of Minnie Dlamini,” streaming exclusively on Showmax from April 26th, 2024.
