Under the theme ‘Tourism and Peace: 30 Years of Connecting People, Places, and Cultures,’ the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) officially launched Tourism Month on the 3rd of September 2024, heralding a vibrant and pivotal period for the province’s tourism industry. Media representatives were invited to join the exclusive #TMMedia2024 experience, which included an immersive tour of the Emakhazeni Municipal District, starting with the picturesque town of Dullstroom.
Dullstroom, often referred to as a hidden gem in Mpumalanga, is famous for its serene atmosphere, captivating landscapes, and breathtaking views. It offers an idyllic retreat for travelers in search of peace and adventure. As part of the tour, attendees were treated to an indulgent experience at Dunkeld Estate, where they enjoyed rejuvenating massages, quad biking, and horseback riding—an opportunity to fully embrace the estate’s tranquil yet adventurous setting.
The excitement continued with a thrilling zipline experience, which allowed the media guests to explore Mpumalanga’s adventure tourism offerings firsthand. This action-packed day culminated in the official Tourism Month launch event, hosted at Incwala Lodge.
MEC for Economic Development and Tourism, Makhosazane Masilela, together with her office, officially opened Tourism Month 2024. In her keynote address, MEC Masilela emphasized the importance of this year’s theme, highlighting how Mpumalanga’s rich cultural and natural heritage continues to connect people, places, and diverse cultures. She outlined key strategies for the future, including the strengthening of tourism infrastructure, promotion of sustainable tourism practices, and positioning Mpumalanga as a top travel destination locally and globally.
Special recognition was given to MTPA’s Head of Communication, Simphiwe Shungube, and Portia Chiloane, whose exceptional efforts as hosts ensured that the event exceeded expectations. Their hospitality and meticulous planning truly reflected the excellence of the MTPA, making the #TMMedia2024 tour a standout success.
