Mzansi Wethu (DStv channel 163) is set to break down barriers and challenge societal norms with its new show, Vuka Mjita, premiering on July 14th. The show aims to provide a safe space for men to explore their vulnerabilities and embark on a journey of emotional healing, countering the traditional belief encapsulated in the phrase “Indoda ayikhali” (a man does not cry), often perceived as a sign of weakness.
A Platform for Emotional Exploration
Vuka Mjita, hosted by the acclaimed Mondli Makhoba (The Wife, Shaka Ilembe), also known as Bhut’Omdala, offers a platform where men can confront their fears, reflect on their roles in society and their families, and ultimately discover their purpose.
“This show is like being part of a journey to empower men,” says Shirley Adonisi, Director of Local Entertainment Channels. “We are providing a platform to help understand, nurture, and heal the mental state of our brothers and sons where it’s needed.”
Weekly Therapy Sessions
Each week, a different man will participate in a therapy session with a professional therapist to address specific challenges they are facing. The show will follow their journey as they break down emotional walls, confront their fears, and open up about their feelings.
As Bhut’Omdala aptly puts it: “Kuwumsebenzi wethu to find out why we exist, for there is a bigger purpose.”
