Showmax has unveiled the complete cast of “Widows Unveiled,” a captivating 10-part Showmax Original that delves into the lives of five women who were married to prominent public figures that have passed away. This reality series takes viewers on a poignant journey from pain to triumph as each woman navigates the challenges, drama, and scandals that emerged following the deaths of their husbands.
Produced by Passionlane Productions, known for the SAFTA-nominated hit show “Uthando Nes’thembu” on Mzansi Magic, the cast of “Widows Unveiled” includes Lerato Sengadi (PR specialist and marketing professional), widow of Motswako legend HHP; Mpho Tshabalala (entrepreneur, award-winning philanthropist, and stroke survivor), widow of musician Mandoza; Sikelelwa Ngubane (broadcaster and philanthropist), widow of actor Menzi Ngubane; Fundiswa Molefe (businesswoman), widow of businessman John Molefe; and Lerato Maphatsoe (businesswoman), widow of former Defence Minister Kebby Maphatsoe.
When asked about their decision to be part of the show, the cast expressed a shared motivation – the desire to share their stories as a source of encouragement for other women facing similar challenges.
As anticipation builds for the season’s debut, Lerato Maphatsoe assured viewers of authenticity and honesty in each lady’s storyline. She highlighted the potential discomfort viewers might experience, especially when addressing sensitive topics within the Black community. Lerato Sengadi clarified that, while she is sharing her story, the interpretation and reception of the content lie with the viewers.
Fundiswa Molefe opened up about the complexities of her marriage, emphasizing that her decision to embark on this journey stems from the emotions she had bottled inside. She hopes her story resonates with other women facing similar experiences, letting them know they are not alone.
Lerato Sengadi underscored the challenges Black widows face, stating that society has made it arduous to be a widow. She aims to reveal her reality and reassure people that being a widow is neither easy nor something to be ashamed of.
Mpho Tshabalala shared insights on the difficulty of rebuilding after loss, emphasizing that faith and hope are crucial for the journey.
Sikelelwa Ngubane initially hesitated but decided to share her story publicly to shed light on the experiences of widows and demonstrate that it is a widespread reality.
Executive producer Tsholofelo Semenya supported the cast’s decision, emphasizing the importance of showcasing the experiences of women who have been alongside celebrated figures, providing a rare insight into the world of widowhood.
“Widows Unveiled” is scheduled to premiere on Showmax on February 12, 2024, with new episodes released weekly. The series promises an intimate portrayal of the challenges and triumphs faced by these remarkable women.
