Volkswagen Motorsport is gearing up for an exciting weekend of competition at the Zwartkops Top of the Hill Challenge, taking place in Pretoria on Saturday, 5 October. This thrilling hill climb event promises to be a highlight for motorsport enthusiasts, with Volkswagen Motorsport fielding nine race cars to take on the challenge.
“The Zwartkops Top of the Hill Challenge is a 2,000-metre hill climb, starting at Turn 4 and running in reverse along the track up to Turn 5 and the finish,” explained Mike Rowe, Head of Volkswagen Motorsport. “We are excited to be competing with nine race cars, led by Jonathan Mogotsi’s Hillclimb SupaPolo, as well as four Volkswagen Rookies who will team up with motoring journalists for the weekend.”
Jonathan Mogotsi, one of Volkswagen Motorsport’s top drivers, is looking forward to the challenge. “During testing, I found the track to be fast and not as reliant on pure speed. I’m eager to compete against some of the more powerful cars and aim for a top-ten finish,” said Mogotsi.
Rowe also expressed gratitude to the event organisers for their support of the Volkswagen Rookies. “We’d like to thank the Zwartkops organisers for including a special class for our Rookie Cup cars. Our four Rookies will be paired with motoring journalists, but each will drive their own Volkswagen Motorsport Polo Vivo GT. Following practice, the Rookies will randomly draw a journalist to team up with for the competition.”
The motoring journalists participating in the event include Brendon Staniforth from Maroela Media, Jacob Moshokoa from Cars.co.za, Fanele Bhengu from Isolezwe, and Rebaneilwe Semakane of Reba S on Cars. The Zwartkops Top of the Hill event kicks off on Friday, with the final showdown scheduled for Saturday.
