SID Entertainment Pty Ltd is proud to announce the return of Soweto’s premier culinary and cultural showcase, the Soweto Kota Festival. Now in its landmark 9th year, the iconic annual event is set to take over the Elkah Cricket Oval in Rockville, Soweto, on 5 and 6 September 2026.

Since its inception, the festival has established itself as a cornerstone of South Africa’s cultural calendar, consistently drawing over 15,000 attendees annually—with last year’s 8th edition welcoming more than 16,000 festivalgoers. What started as a local celebration has transformed into a massive driver of township tourism, family entertainment, and economic empowerment.

A Feast of Flavor, Music, and Culture

While popular among the youth, the festival caters to all ages with a diverse mix of live entertainment, top-tier musical acts, brand activations, and family-friendly fun—including dedicated treats from Ola for the kids.

Over 40 food vendors will be showcasing their signature Kota creations starting from as little as R60. As South Africa’s beloved street food evolves beyond traditional chips, atchar, and polony, the festival continues to attract major Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) partners and brands, including official mobility partner Renault. “The Soweto Kota Festival is more than an event — it’s a celebration of heritage, community, and the entrepreneurial spirit of Soweto,” says event organizer Tshingilane. “As we head into our 9th year, we’re excited to welcome media, partners, and fans back to experience what makes this festival so special.”

    Driving Local Economic Impact

Beyond food and music, the Soweto Kota Festival remains deeply committed to community upliftment. This year’s event will create direct short-term employment for over 40 unemployed local youth, providing crucial income for families in the area. By giving emerging entrepreneurs, small businesses, and food vendors a high-profile national stage, the festival continues to stimulate Soweto’s local economy.

What to Expect at the 2026 Edition:

    • Live Music & Performances: Two full days of live entertainment featuring top South African artists.

    • The Best Kota Competition: A high-stakes culinary showdown to crown the country’s top vendor (following 2025 winner 2 Selai, alongside runner-ups Zaza’s Eatery and Ko-boiketlong Situations).

    • Vibrant Marketplace: A showcase of over 70 food vendors, general traders, interactive brand activations, and giveaways.

    Official Media Launch

An exclusive Media Launch will take place at the Soweto Theatre the original venue where the festival launched nine years ago. The launch will officially unveil the full list of 2026 sponsors, festival activities, and offer media partners a Q&A session with the organizers.
