Waking up at 03:00 is spiritual warfare. But for the JETOUR T2 Dark Knight? We woke up like champs. Johannesburg was still half-asleep as we slipped onto empty highways, racing the sunrise to catch our 07:00 flight to Pietermaritzburg.
Touchdown felt… interesting. Pietermaritzburg Airport is cute — the kind of airport where you blink and you’re at the exit. OR Tambo could never. Lanseria says “sharp.” But the size didn’t matter because the JETOUR SA team was already waiting with smiles that said “Welcome to KZN, we’re about to show off.”
And show off, they did.
MIDLANDS CALLING
The drive to the Midlands was pure tranquillity. No Jozi stress. No taxis auditioning for F1. No potholes plotting your downfall. Just fresh air, rolling hills and a fleet of Dark Knights leading the way like a VIP motorcade.
Arriving at Fordoun Hotel & Spa felt like stepping into a wellness brochure. Peaceful. Scenic. Soft life activated.
Then we saw them:
A full line-up of JETOUR T2 Dark Knights, gleaming like they were posing for a blockbuster poster.
Black. Bold. Beautiful.
Like they came with their own theme music.
Breakfast first because no one test-drives on an empty stomach.
Then keys handed over. Engines awakened.
Time to hit the road.
MERANDA DAM — WHERE THE T2 PROVED IT HAS “THAT THING”
On the way to Meranda Dam, the T2 wasted no time announcing itself. The 2.0-litre turbo engine with 180 kW and 375 Nm delivered that unmistakable “relax, I’ve got this” confidence.
Uphills?
A joke.
Midlands bends?
Handled like choreography.
Long straights?
Smooth like a slow jam.
It felt premium. It felt centred. It felt ready for whatever Mzansi roads want to throw at it.
BECAUSE WORK MUST BALANCE WITH SOFT LIFE
Back at Fordoun, lunch was served, and then bliss. We were treated to spa treatments that could heal childhood trauma. Massages, rituals, steam… the works. I personally chose the full package. When in the Midlands, why not?
A swim afterwards sealed the deal.
This wasn’t a press trip this was a lifestyle.
Dinner at Bistro Sky brought the day to a perfect end. Good food, great views, and even better motoring gossip as we prepared mentally for the drive back to Egoli.
MIST, ROADWORKS & A DARK KNIGHT THAT REFUSED TO BE SHAKEN
The Midlands wasn’t ready to let us go without drama.
When we fired up the Dark Knight the next morning, a thick mist covered the entire property like a scene from Lord of the Rings.
You couldn’t see two metres ahead — but the T2 lit up the fog like it was born in it.
The N3?
Yoh — it tried its luck:
Mist thicker than amasi
Endless roadworks
Trucks behaving like they own shares in the highway
Taxis improvising their own rules
And THAT one bakkie that thinks the yellow lane is his father’s property
But the JETOUR T2?
Solid. Calm. Unbothered.
Like a seasoned Gauteng driver who survived December traffic four years in a row.
PERFORMANCE
The moment we joined the N3 northbound, the Dark Knight slipped into its flow. The engine didn’t whisper it announced itself.
Comfort Mode:
Smooth. Quiet. Premium.
The kind of drive that makes you question why you’re not living in the Midlands full-time.
Sport Mode:
Hawu.
The personality change was instant.
Throttle sharp. Steering tight. Overtakes cleaner than a fresh fade.
You could feel the T2 saying, “Let me show you something.”
THE AVERAGE-SPEED CAMERAS OUR TRUE ENEMIES
N3 cameras have humbled many brave souls.
But the T2’s intelligent systems said:
“Relax, we’ll behave.”
Adaptive cruise? Smooth.
Lane-keep assist? Sharp.
Speed warnings? Very loud like a strict auntie.
Result?
Not even one fine.
Not even a petty “81 in an 80.”
We drove like responsible adults for once.
Thank you, JETOUR.
ROADWORKS VS. T2 — A DRAG RACE IT DIDN’T SIGN UP FOR
KwaZulu-Natal roadworks could stress a saint.
Narrow lanes. Loose gravel. Random cows acting like traffic cops.
The T2 replied:
Mud Mode — handled damp patches with swag
Sand/Gravel Mode — stabilised everything
4L — used briefly, but wow…
Snow Mode — we didn’t need it, but just knowing it’s there makes you feel unstoppable
No rattles. No squeaks.
Just confidence.
This is not a soft-roader pretending to be hardcore.
This is a proper SUV.
GAUTENG ARRIVAL
By the time Heidelberg appeared, the mist cleared, the sun returned, and Gauteng energy kicked in.
We rolled into Johannesburg still feeling fresh.
Still looking fresh.
Still driving a car that demanded attention.
At Chaf Pozi, the Soweto Towers the reactions were priceless necks turning, people pointing, compliments flying. The towers had a rival for the day.
Then we cruised along Vilakazi Street and the T2 shut the block down.
Greetings.
Selfie requests.
Praise.
Even a few respectful bows., the King of the road is here. Mzansi knows a good-looking car when it sees one.
G20 SUMMIT DUTIES — BIG MOVES FOR A ONE-YEAR-OLD BRAND
Shortly after our return, the T2 fleet was prepared for its next assignment:
official vehicle partner of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg. A massive milestone for a brand celebrating only one year in South Africa. JETOUR is not here to play. They came to disrupt, and so far?
It’s working.
FUN FACTS & PRICING
Starting price: from R569,900.
Fun Fact: Over 900 units of the JETOUR T2 were sold within the first week of its release in South Africa.

THE DARK KNIGHT HAS ARRIVED
The JETOUR T2 Dark Knight isn’t just an SUV.
